An oasis of hospitality and charm in the village of Gradara
Hospitality and flavours in the heart of Gradara
We are pleased to present you with the fruit of our ongoing work, carried out with perseverance and dedication, with the single objective in mind: to offer you an enchanting haven of hospitality in the heart of the splendid village of Gradara.
Hence, the relais Inferno & Paradiso was created, where you will find our splendid rooms, 4 rooms located on the main floor and 2 in the dungeons of an ancient palace in Gradara.
Inferno e Paradiso is our historical residence, in one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, a place where you can enjoy the atmosphere of a private spa and experience all the exclusivity of a magical location with an ancient flavour.
In fact, our relais is located inside the Morandi-Bonacossi palace in Gradara and offers you to choose among unique rooms.
Would you like to enjoy the experience of sleeping in an ancient dungeon? Then you can choose one of our Inferno suites, located underground, where you can recreate a real kingdom of pleasure, to be shared with whomever you wish.
These rooms are particularly suggestive due to the presence of a cave that, winding its way more than 15 metres underground, leads to an underground room where meals can be served in a decidedly unique setting.
Happiness and beauty, on the other hand, can be found in the white and celestial spaces of our Paradiso rooms, which are bright, joyful and welcoming and are located on the main floor.
All our rooms are equipped with whirlpool tub, Wi-Fi and TV. You can also enjoy our tasty breakfast served in your room whenever you want.
An evocative and unique setting
The rooms of our Relais Inferno & Paradiso are the right choice for a romantic getaway and a surprise for your partner. You will find yourself immersed in history, in the centre of the marvellous Gradara, with the ancient charm of the Middle Ages in every corner.
The details in every room will render your stay even more exciting and intriguing, a true journey through the innermost senses and desires.
The beauty of the place and the charm of the landscape propitiated the great loves of the past, such as that between the daring lovers Francesca and Paolo Malatesta (1289), narrated by Dante in the V canto of the Inferno, whose memory is still present in the rooms of the fortress in Gradara.
The Morandi-Bonacossi palace is also home to the La Botte restaurant, where you will find dishes of the typical cuisine of the Marche-Romagna region.
A wonderful village steeped in history
The Palazzo in which we are very fortunate to find ourselves is located right inside the medieval village of Gradara. Embraced by its walls and a double system of defensive walls and drawbridges (one of which is still in place), the fortress is the heart of this place, with its chivalrous and romantic soul.
It was the Malatesta family, seduced by the beauty of the panorama and the wholesome air, who turned it into their summer residence, refining the fortress functions requested by the ancient Grifo family, who built it around the year 1000.
In addition to the two lovers featured in the Divine Comedy, the fortress was also home to Lucrezia Borgia when she was a teenager. She was married for the first time to Giovanni Sforza, Lord of Pesaro, who succeeded the Malatesta family as ruler of Gradara in 1463. After a very brief regency of Cesare Borgia, Lucrezia's brother, Gradara came under the rule of Francesco Maria della Rovere, nephew of Pope Julius II.
With the extinction of the Della Rovere family, the castle was granted to some nobles from Pesaro and then ended up in the hands of the Municipality of Gradara, which, unable to ensure its preservation, ceded it with the obligation of restoration to the Counts Morandi-Bonacossi, who give their name to the palace in which we have built our relais.
